CLP Executive and Functional Officers
Our Constituency Labour Party (CLP) is led by an Executive Committee (EC) which puts into effect the decisions of members, co-ordinates local action and reports back to all members.
Executive Officer positions can be shared by a maximum of two members, excluding Chair and Treasurer due to the statutory responsibilities of these roles. Officers are all voting members of the Executive Committee.
Functional officers are encouraged to attend Executive Committee meetings to report on their work and share expertise with colleagues but shall not be voting members unless elected to the Executive Committee as individuals.
At least three of the first six executive officers listed below (chair, vice-chair, vice-chair/ membership, secretary, treasurer, policy officer) at least half of the total
number of officers, must be women.
Provides leadership & direction to the CLP and ensures the local party operates fairly and openly by ensuring everyone is listened to and has their say. Role also include facilitating meetings, preparing the agenda and approving draft minutes,
Stands in when the Chair is not available and supports the Chair in achieving CLP objectives and delivery of the CLP Development Plan..
Leads on membership recruitment and retention work to ensure the local party grows, ensures new members are welcomed and that all members continue to feel valued, are up to date on how they can get involved and get as much as they can out of their membership.
Keeps the CLP running efficiently. Makes sure everyone is kept up to date with the CLPs activities, particularly when it comes to official meetings, ensuring all the CLP’s communications are high quality. Roles also includes issuing CLP meeting notices and keeping records of meetings.
Manages the local party’s finances, provides regular financial reports, prepares annual accounts for auditing and helps the local party build the financial resources to run effective campaigns by setting budgets and fundraising targets. Meets statutory requirements e.g. on donation reporting and taxation.
Leads the CLP’s policy making discussions and activities and encourages members to help develop Labour Party policy. Acts as link with national policy development frameworks.
Represents, organises and promotes links between women members and ensures the local party engages with women voters by means of events, social media activity and campaigns targeted at women.
Trade Union Liaison Officer:
Strengthens the link between affiliated trade unions, and LW&P. Coordinates with unions to support local disputes. Keeps members informed of trade union policy and actions.
Services BAME Branch / Forum, represents the interests of BAME members and ensures the local party engages with Black Asian and Ethnic Minority members and voters by means of events, activities and campaigns.
Represents and promotes links between young members and makes sure the local party engages with young members and voters by means of events, activities and campaigns.
Represents and promotes links between disabled members and ensures the local party engages with disabled members and voters by means of events, activities and campaigns..
Represents and promotes links between LGBT+ members and ensures the local party engages with LGBT+ members and voters by means of events, activities and campaigns.
Political Education Officer:
Organises and facilitates regular political education events and discussions for members and affiliates.
Social Media Officer:
Works to provide a proactive digital communications strategy, improve links between members and and increase the local party’s profile and campaigns via digital platforms and social media. Co-ordinates a presence online and helps run integrated campaigns
using digital channels (Social Media). Recruits and manages a team of members to undertake work necessary to deliver the CLPs Digital Strategy.
Attends all General Meetings and Executive Committee meetings and records and writes up all meeting minutes
Organises speakers, social & fundraising events and arranges venues for General Meetings.
Information Technology Officer:
Ensures that the local party is using technology to store securely Party historic data, engage with members, supporters and the public, and to further their campaign goals.
Community Organising Officer:
Helps develop relationships between the local party and the many groups within the local community in order to promote the CLPs objectives and development plan, identifies key local issues where the Party can support community groups, and works with community
leaders and local people to develop and lead winnable campaigns.
In conjunction with the Treasurer handles the insurance, leaseholder service charges, and MP’s office, and looks after maintenance and safe running of the CLP’s premises at 43 Sunderland Road.
